James 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
English “so” emboldened in James 3:5 was translated from Greek adverb 3779 houto that modifies a verb, an adjective, another adverb, or an entire sentence in the same manner as what proceeds or follows that Greek adverb. God is making sure that we don’t overlook the fact that God is comparing the controlling of a horse and ship to controlling the tongue. Either one’s own tongue or the tongue of others pursuant to God’s will. God’s will is well defined in the English words of Ephesians 1:10 and 1Timothy 2:3-4 “That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him” “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour” “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth”. These three verses will come to fruition during the “thousand years” between this earth age and the eternal age that follows. Any and every tongue that says anything contrary to these three verses is contrary to God’s will.
